More AK Quirks-
- Ice cream stores everywhere--from Cold Stones to Dairy Queens to mom and pop shops, you can get ice cream everywhere and at anytime. What-is it not cold enough already? Or does eating ice cream make you feel warmer???
- You don't have to prove you have car insurance to get your drivers license, but you do have to take a test. They like tests in AK--you have to take a test or fill something out to do just about anything in this state. To graduate, all seniors must take an exit exam, ironically, AK has a high drop out rate!
- On the car insurance topic, you have to carry extra coverage so you are covered in case the person who hits you isn't...follow that? Me either!
- People give driving directions according to the mile markers on the highway. They'll say "oh, we live at mile marker 25", well that's nice, but if snow is covering the marker or your clueless as to where that is you are so SOL. But never fear, because you can buy a book that tells you everything about each mile marker--restaurants, gas stations, etc. The book is called Milepost, of course--I kept seeing this book everywhere and keep thinking what the hell is that--a religious book????? Well no, I was much confused with the Guidepost--isn't that the Jehovah's Witness book? You can buy it at Costco. By the way, that leads me to my next quirk...
- Costco! The place to shop--I haven't been yet--but everyone else in the state has! When asking "where's the best place to...", the answer is always Costco. Even if it's just a family of 1--people stock up here like there will be no tomorrow!
